July 23, 2009 Wheat- Wheat futures have opened five cents higher this morning. Export sales estimates for today range from 300-550 tmt. Japan bought 87 tmt of US milling wheat and 21 tmt from Australia for Sept. shipment. Morocco will tender for 180 tmt of soft wheat August 5th. Jordan will tender for 100 tmt of hard wheat also on August 5th. Pea & Lentil bids - USDA solicitation 089 was announced July 22nd and includes 12,290 mt (27,094,534 lbs) of yellow split peas, 290 mt (639,334 lbs) of green split peas, 10 mt (22,046 lbs) of whole green peas, and 6,930 mt (15,277,878 lbs) of lentils; all for shipment Sept. 1-22. An additional 750 mt (1,653,450 lbs) of lentils is requested for shipment Nov. 1-22. Offers will be submitted Monday, Aug. 3rd. 2009 crop should be available for shipment on the tender. Barley- Barley prices have dropped a little due to the drop in the wheat and corn markets. Not seeing a lot of positive potential for barley at this time. July 24, 2009 Wheat- Wheat futures are down 14 cents this morning. The USDA announced they are eliminating actual field-based surveys for estimating thespring wheat and durum crops, but will base their yield estimates entirely on farmer surveys. Not any major news at this time. July 20, 2009 Wheat- Wheat futures are trading 3 cents lower this morning. Overall things are quite among the markets so far. Jordan will be tendering for some HRW for August shipment. Palntings are delayed in India due to monsoons. Pea & Lentil bids - All commodities on USDA solicitation 079A were purchased at prices well below our current bids. Solicitation 079B was announced July 9th, and no peas or lentils are requested. Prices will transition to new crop bids in the next couple of weeks. Barley- Barley prices have dropped a little due to the drop in the wheat and corn markets. Not seeing a lot of positive potential for barley at this time. July 21, 2009 Wheat- Wheat futures are down five cents this morning. Egypt’s GASC is tendering for 30-60 tmt optional origin wheat for August shipment. Japan is tendering for 108 tmt of milling wheat from the US and Australia for Sept. shipment. China imported 193 tmt of wheat in June, the highest monthly volume since 2005. HRW harvest is 72% complete versus 77% average. Spring wheat is 84% headed versus 93% on average. Spring conditions were up 2% this week at 73% and vs. 63% last year. Pea & Lentil bids - All commodities on USDA solicitation 079A were purchased at prices well below our current bids. Solicitation 079B was announced July 9th, and no peas or lentils are requested. Australia’s Bureau of Meteorology indicates that the El Nino pattern is continuing to develop. El Nino can mean below normal rain for southern and eastern Australia in the last half of the year. However, this year the National Australia Bank is predicting production of 23.2 mmt for the harvest that begins in November, the biggest in 4 years.
